All 3/4 students have been working with Resident Artist Derron Wood, studying Colonial America. He will meet with Mrs. Polansky's Class during 10 classroom sessions, and students will learn about life in the 1600s. His time with us involves a lot of acting, role playing, drawing, creating, reading, writing, and shadow puppet-making! Students have been having a great time and learning a lot.
First couple of days with Derron - ice-breakers, establishing our Pilgrim families, and talking about life aboard the Mayflower.
Derron shows 3/4 classes how to use shadow to create some interesting figures. Students will use these techniques later to wrap up their study on Colonial America.
The "evolution" of our bulletin board.
Students working on various parts of the board.
Students sketch Pilgrim scenes. Mr. Wood shows us how we can easily create shadow imagery of the scenes with an overhead projector and some scraps of paper.
